Told in second person from the POV of the cosmic horror itself, a risky tactic that pays off handsomely here. He is also in love with Desniah and he will (as the blurb says) do anything for the woman he loves. Doesn't waste time on the gushy lovey stuff, but still gives you a sense of what the characters are feeling. Many people admire their size, intelligence, and strength. Leon’s style of writing moves quickly and adeptly toward its conclusion, and, as uusual, not what one might expect. The plot and the characters are well developed and very believable.
